In June 2025 I took part in a one day course with the Kineku Lab, where I learnt about this style of short form filmmaking. In brief the concept is to convey a story or an idea within a 17 seconds, with an additional 3 second title card, ending up with a 20 second film.
I really enjoy creating something so quickly, it’s quite similar to writing flash fiction. It also seemed like a great way of going through footage that hadn’t yet been edited. From the pieces I’ve worked on so far I can see how this is a great way of making a sketch before creating a longer film.
This is a compilation of three films I made recently. The first is from an afternoon spent in Hamamatsu last year. The second two shorts are made from the footage filmed during the Kineku course.
